We were so impressed with Frances and her music that we invited her to record an album in the studio. She has a wonderful feeling for jazz and blues standards but what makes her a real stand-out are her original songs and unique style . . .

    James Morrison

A talented young vocalist and pianist on the Sydney scene. One to watch and I look forward to her upcoming album . . .

Mal Stanley, Presenter & Producer, Jazztrack, ABC Classic FM

Frances Madden’s voice has both purity and pathos – a rare quality in one so young. A dynamic and gifted singer . . .

    Simon Tedeschi

Frances’ music is a river of original and heartfelt material, truly a creative force not just in the jazz idiom, but as a genuine contemporary songwriter to keep an ear out for . . .

Matt Bailey, Presenter, Jazz Vibes, Fine Music 102.5 FM.

We hit the jackpot with Frances Madden.  The band were a huge hit and we would love to have her back at Manly Jazz again . . .

Caroline Speight, Artistic Director, Manly Jazz Festival.

The new album by Frances Madden titled ‘If This Were a Dream’ impressed me more than most debut albums do. Frances has an individual expressive ability, a musical professionalism, a good feel for swing in jazz and she plays fine piano. I’m certain we’ll be hearing a good deal more of Frances in the future  . . .

John McBeath, Jazz Critic for ‘The Australian’ newspaper.

Frances has charisma on stage and the band are great live. She is also a natural in front of the camera . . .

Wayne Borg, Managing Director, Fox Studios Australia

  • Profile

Frances is a singer, piano player and songwriter – and an emerging Sydney-based ‘popular jazz’ artist.  Her style is original and natural but reflects the influences of Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, Nora Jones and Eva Cassidy, whom she grew up listening to.

Frances and her band specialise in weddings, but also perform at a range of other events including birthdays and corporate functions, as well as regular residencies in hotels and restaurants around Sydney. Frances delights her audiences with her mixture of up-tempo swing, engaging blues and moving ballads. Whilst a specialising cocktail jazz and soul band, they are also able to kick it up a notch for the dance floor if the occasion calls!

Frances’ band includes some of Australia’s finest up-and-coming jazz musicians, usually appearing as a quartet of vocals & piano, guitar, drums and bass. The band also extends to 5 or 6-piece, adding saxophone and trumpet upon request.
